This paper focuses on explaining the use of a microcontroller that aims to control an elevator. After selecting the floor option on a 4x4 matrix keypad, the LCD screen is intended to show, on one hand, the number of the floor where the user is headed and, on the other, where the elevator car is going. The success of the system depends on the configuration of the microcontroller and particularly on the order that directs the motor step by step, as this, in turn, is responsible for dragging the cabin into the structure supported on a set of pulleys. Additionally, in accordance with current regulations governing the city of Bogotá and Colombia, this text will present an idea to improve the safety and comfort of elevators.
